Mount Hood during summer by: On the Snow

Every year I have to go through 180 days of school. All that I really want to do now is get out of school and have summer start. Luckily I’m 18 days away from school letting out. The bad part is that those 18 days will be the longest days of my life! To make the last few days even worse we have core-testing or just a test everyday. Every year this is the worst time of the school year. If a teacher catches you in the hall even with a hall pass they get frustrated with you for being out of class while core testing. For the next 18 days all I will be doing is staring at the clock all day.

After those long and hard 18 days are up the summer will start and the fun will begin. I’m really excited for this summer because of the things i’m doing. The thing that I am most excited for is a golf tournament because its for college scouts to look at the best golfers in high-schools around the country. I know that I’m not even close to being as good as some other guys that are going to this but I think it will be really fun to go and hangout in the California sun for a week and play golf. I’m also really excited to go on a ski trip to Mount hood to go ski for another week right after the California trip. Besides going on these trips I’m playing a lot of golf which might not sound too fun to other people but I love it, it’s like a addiction to me. So I guess you could say that I’m ready for school to end and summer to start.

Spring is Finally Starting!!

Park Citys seasons are a bit complicated.  There are fours seasons; Summer, Fall, Winter, and the last season should be spring but you never know if its going to rain, snow, or be sunny. This year the weather has become a little more predictable and its turned out to be a good thing. Since in the spring I like to get started on golf I haven’t been rained or snowed out of playing. And since there hasn’t been any bad weather I have been able to longboard or ride my bike everywhere I go, its different from driving everywhere but I like it.

This spring has become really fun since I joined a spring golf league. I have never played golf so early in the year. In the spring league I am on a team with some other golfers from Park City and with one boy from Juan Diego. There is also another team from Park City that has all the state players on it which have been dominating the competition and winning every event… until yesterday. Yesterday we played at Nibley golf course which was a really cool course. My team only had four players instead of five so we all knew we had to play well. The best kid on our team named Mitch shot 34, Jackson another kid on the team shot 37, I shot 42, and This senior named Sam shot a 40. I was so disappointed after that round I was just not happy at all. One I got back to the club house I saw the scores and it made me feel better because I saw kids with 56′s and 59′s. All I know is that if I shot a 59 on 9 holes I would break every single club in my bag. So I am very happy that spring has finally begun and that winter has left Park City, now I just can’t wait for summer.

Finding Some Game… Well Trying to

At the end of the ski year I thought that learning to golf again was going to be easy. I was very, very wrong. The first time I played this year I didn’t play the last 3 holes because I was playing just horrible. I couldn’t make a putt or hit a decent shot, I was getting really frustrated with the way I was playing. After that day I knew that I needed to play and practice a lot more. From that first day I have played in a couple tournaments and a few other rounds of golf. Every time play I get a little better but i’m still not satisfied I demand better playing….but i’m not really getting it.

So for the past week I have been playing every course in Park City that is opened at the moment. I have been on every driving range every night and tried to play everyday. If I miss a day of training my dad would tell me “Tommy you have to play more if you want to make the golf team again.” Well I am determined to practice all summer so I can make the golf team again.

So back to me explaining about how i’m trying to get my game back. The other day was the first time this year I have shot a 39 on 9 holes. I was really happy on how I played that day. I scored that at Glenwild Golf course  which really was really nice because the course was amazing for how long its been since the mountain has closed. So for this summer I will only be working and playing golf. If you want to find me look on the golf course!!

The 20th of April

Posted on April 20, 2012 in Uncategorized by thalsey15  Tagged , , , ,

Every once a year there is a day where what all the “cool” kids say is their favorite holiday of the year. Every time this holiday comes around there are just some kids that you can guess will be called down to the principals or get in trouble. For me its another day of school and another day of normal life. The only thing different about this school day among the rest is that today there have been cops everywhere and there have been dogs sniffing all of the lockers here in my school and also at the high-school.

People keep on asking me “what are YOU doing for 4/20

The Pot Leaf...Cool Right?

” time after time all I say is i’m going to go home after school and play x-box. I have no business with pot. First of all I don’t exactly want to do it and also my parents drug test me, and are constantly telling me to stay away from that type of stuff. And I listen to what they say and I respect them and their wishes.

For all of the other 70% or my school that just keeps on talking about 4/20 it is so damn annoying. When ever somebody comes up to and says I just want to punch them really f**king hard. People who say that are only just trying to act cool and make them sound like a real “stoner”. After a years of people saying the same thing I have just learned to say the same thing when they ask “4/20 is gunna be sick!” all I say back is “Sure, ya, sick.” So really today Instead of getting high I will be hanging out with some of my friends and drink….Just kidding I will be doing none of that stuff. I neither want to get into trouble with the law or my parents. So everyone out there… have a good 4/20 I guess.

What a Bad Tuesday

Where I was playing Tuesday

On tuesday I had my first tournament of the year, it was not to good. Knowing that I haven’t played golf in about 4 months I wasn’t expecting to play my best. I also didn’t think that I was going to play as bad as I did. I found out that on the first tee I was a little more nervous then I usually am and I hit the ball about 20 feet into a ditch. As soon as that happened I knew that I just myself look like a dumb-ass. I urned around and looked back at the people watching and giggling at my shot. I just wanted to say a “big F*** you” to them but I controlled my anger and teed off again. This time it was a good shot and It was right down in the middle of the fairway. I walked off in my group and tried to focus on golf.

For the next few holes I was doing fine, I pulled myself together and was about 4 over after 7 holes. I wasn’t happy with how I was playing overall and it didn’t having my opponent talk to me about his personal life with his girlfriend. Once I got to the 8th hole I couldn’t concentrate at all and I was uncomfortable with the situation I just couldn’t wait for the round to be over. When I go to the 8th hole I shanked my first ball of the tee, I ended up with an 5 on an par 3. On the last hole I shanked my ball again and my ball landed behind a tree.My second shot I actually hit the tree. I gave up after that I was so frustrated I just played the rest of the hole and finished with a 8 on a par 5. I couldn’t play another hole if someone payed me too. I ended up with having a 46 on 9 holes, there is only one word that would describe me playing on tuesday: Pathetic. My whole day was complete by eating at Crown Burger which after getting home I got sick from it! Awesome!!! Not……..

Pretty good birthday!

Me getting Charlies wonderful gift!

On monday March 19th, was my birthday! Many of my past birthdays have been good and all but this year it was awesome.  I woke up monday looking into the face of my older brother screaming “Happy birthday Tommy” which was a pretty annoying way to start off my day. The day got better when I got to school and was greeted by friends wishing me a happy birthday. The whole day was pretty good because in all of my classes every teacher was in a good mood and happy. After school ended I drove home with my friend Abel. Abel dropped me off at my house and then said goodbye. When I got inside I went straight up to my room to get ready to ski for a little. I got all my ski stuff on and headed up to the hill. When I got up there I jumped on the chairlift and skied for a little. A few runs later I decided to leave and go home. Once at home I went upstair to my X-box and started to play UFC 3 which was so super fun!

After having a eventful afternoon my family and I headed over to Oishi sushi bar to have dinner. Granted, Park City doesn’t have the best sushi in the world but it was still really good. Over dinner we talked about what we did the whole day and what I wanted to do for my birthday. When the waitress came I ordered 3 roles and by the end of dinner I was about to go into a food coma. When I got home it was strait to opening presents and eating cake. My family and I were having an amazing time. I was having an awesome time opening presents. Once I was all done opening presents my older brother Charlie walked out of the kitchen with a huge box that he said he got me. When I picked it up it was really heaving so I knew it was something cool. I opened it and inside there was a weight rapped in a pillow and next to it was a drug test. I couldn’t help but laugh ass off! It was a really evil but good prank for my birthday. I thought that my birthday day was really funny and good this year.

A Bad Year but a Good Year.

Posted on March 17, 2012 in Skiing in comps!,skiing with friends by thalsey15  Tagged , , , , , , ,

This year went both ways for me. At the start of the season I didn’t know if it was going to be a good year or a bad year. As the season started more I atomatically relized that it was going to be a very very bad year. There was never any good legit powder days this whole year. Over Christmas break all I got to ski was park and no pow. I really like skiing the park but after many days of doing it all I wanted to do is have one good day to ski powder. Powder never came all I could do this winter it ski the park and complain about how there is no snow and how bad skiing is. It has been a rough winter but at least Park City knows that next year can’t be any worse then this year.

On the Bright side this year i have learned a lot more about park skiing. In the past few years I haven’t really pogressed at all in park skiing but this year was different because I had nowhere else to ski. After being in the park more I got better at half-pipe as well. Doing all of the comps this year was a blast. One after one I did more and more comps, I found out that the only way to get better at skiing is to skia  lot and do a lot of competitions. This year was also a good year because I got to meet a lot of new friends from around the nation who shared the same passion for sking as I did. Meeting new people around the nation that loved to ski was really cool and it was really fun to ski with them. This winter was bad is many ways but it was also good in a lot of ways as well

Halfpipe in Steamboat!

Posted on March 10, 2012 in Skiing in comps! by thalsey15  Tagged , , , , , ,

Over the course of the winter I have been doing half-pipe competitions a lot! For my first year of doing competitive hafl-pipe I think that I have done pretty well. In my first competition I got 4th which I was fine with, My second competition I got 2nd. Then Last week I did three more half-pipe competitions that I all placed in. While doing all of these I have learned a lot of new tricks and have overall become a better skier. At first I never thought that I would do any good in any competitions but after a while I was pretty confident in my skiing ability in competitions. After a great year of skiing in half-pipe competitions I got and invitation to go compete at the junior nationals at steamboat springs. Getting that type of new was amazing.

Ussa junior nationals

My dad and I headed for steamboat right after school on monday. Once the bell rang I walked outside, got in the car, and left. The car ride was 5 hours and it was really long but it was fun to crack jokes with my dad. The car ride there was one of the funniest car rides of my life. Once we got to steamboat we looked around town for somewhere to eat, somewhere good. We finally decided on mexican food. We had a good dinner then went to the hotel, checked in and went to sleep. The next day was a practice day for all half-pipe competetors which where the top 50 in th nation. The whole day I practiced trying to get use to the half-pipe and trying new tricks. The day went by really fast and before I new it was time to head back to the hotel to eat dinner and then go to sleep which is what we did. The next day we woke up and headed up to the mountian. I had 30 minutes of training before the actual competition started. Once it started I got really nevious. My first run wasn’t that good compared to everyone else but I was fine with it. In my second run I got a lot more air and did harder tricks. Although I though my run was good it was only good wnough to get me 37/50. It was not my best performance but considering it was my first year I was happy to say I am 37 best in the nation!

What a Fun Break!

Over winter break I had a blast! Of course I skied the whole break and of course it was extremely fun. Usually all I ski is park and half-pipe but some of my friends convinced me to get up more on the mountain and ski some big mountain and some powder. My friends told me that it was going to be more fun then just skiing park all day…and they were right. Skiing jupiter was some of the funnest skiing I have done all break! We launched some huge cliffs and hiked some peaks of the mountain and it was really fun. For 5 days all that we did was ski jupiter and nothing else and we did some filming while we were up there. It was good to get out of the park for a little. The best part about skiing big mountain was building jumps, we built about 7 jumps in 5 days!

After skiing up at jupiter for a few days I went over to Snowbird for a big mountain competition. I had never done a big mountain competition before but I was really excited to do one. Once I got to Snowbird I headed up the tram with Abel Barnhart and Tucker Mirams. Once we got to the top of the tram we got to go look at the run we were going to ski down. We got 2 inspection runs and then the competition started. Once it started there were kids that were sending it. Abel Barnhart was the one kid that I thought was giving it his all and it was awesome to watch him jump off of huge cliffs. When it came to my run I hit some big cliffs but I guess not enough to make the podium. When awards came I didn’t get anything but Abel did. He got 2nd and I got 9th. Overall it was a really fun day and a very fun break!

Just Another Awesome Monday

Nick Geopper Skiing

Mondays are not my favorite day of the week I would like to say I am more of a friday person. On Monday I woke up like any other monday and woke up at 6:30 for school. I showered, ate, and then headed out the door to school. When I got to school it was normal, I had a test first period and was bored the whole entire day. The reason this monday was so different from all the others is that my dad checked me out early to go ski the half-pipe at Park City Mountain Resort. Once I had left school I was on my way to the mountain. I was so excited!! As soon as I got the hill I got on the lift and started skiing. I skied for 4 hours and it was amazing but I was very tired and felt like I needed to go home.

I spent some time at home doing some homework my dad asked me if I wanted to go to the hockey game for Park City. Of course I said yes because all I wanted to do is watch hockey! My little brother, my dad, and  got in the car and drove down to salt lake to the hockey game. Once I got to the hockey game I met up with some friends and we sat down on the benches. The hockey lasted an hour and Park City lost 5-1. It was a bummer. As soon as the game ended I headed home. On the way home my dad got a call, he spent like 5 minutes talking and then hung up. He didn’t say anything and we drove back to Park City. Once we got to Park City we didn’t go to my house we went to Nick Garlands. When we got to his house I opened the door and saw pro skier Nick Goepper! It was awesome we hung out for 30 minute and then I went home. It really was a awesome Monday.
